This past Tuesday and Wednesday, a heat wave brushed over the Pittsburgh area — making some very sweaty students even sweatier. For early September, the temperatures were in the 90’s!
According to Accuweather, “Pittsburgh‘s streak of not reaching 90 degrees in September dates back to 2019. On Monday and Tuesday however, the city reached 91, and it is forecast to reach the lower 90s again on Wednesday.”
Due to the construction in the school, much of the open, humid air would rush into the building and combat with our 1970’s AC systems. It’s safe to say that the heat won.
Pittsburgh Public Schools shifted to remote learning in over 30 locations, due to not having any air conditioning system at all.
Students and teachers alike struggled to withstand the intense temperatures at Avonworth that felt like they just kept on rising throughout the afternoon. Many found it hard to focus in classrooms and in the gym, and claim that it made them even more tired by the end of the day.
