Heading into the 2nd round of playoffs, here’s a glimpse at another successful season for Boys Basketball.
The team has surpassed expectations as the season ended. The Lopes started the year off to a hot start with a 9-3 record while currently sitting at 12-5. Junior Rowan Carmichael and Senior Anthony Arlia are currently the leading scorers for the Antelopes as they hope to keep up their success. One of the top stories of the year for the Lopes was Rowan Carmichael reaching 1,000 high school career points against Hampton. The Lopes currently have 2 scorers averaging 10 plus points per game. Senior Anthony Arlia averages 13 points per game alongside the junior Rowan Carmichael who averages 23 points per game.

The Antelopes began the year off by bringing home the gold and sweeping the St. Joseph Opening Tournament. The Lopes have won huge games throughout the season including a 44-42 win against the biggest school in the state, the Class 6A State College Area Little Lions. The Antelopes started section games off hot with wins over South Alleghany and Quaker Valley. The Lopes continued their section winning streak with a commanding 16-point win over the former section champion the Montour Spartans. The Montour Spartans flipped the script in the 2nd section game against the Lopes. Coach Mancuso proceeded to coach the team to a victory in the final section game against West Mifflin to secure the 2nd overall spot in the section.

The Avonworth Antelopes got the sixth seed in the WPIAL boy’s basketball playoffs. The Lopes got to host the first-round playoff game against Highlands. KDKA Network radioed the game and gave their KDKA Player of the Game award to Rowan Carmicheal for his 32 points. The Lopes played their second playoff game against Montour. The Lopes won the hard-fought battle against the Spartans 63-56 with Rowan Carmichael breaking the all-time leading scoring record at Avonworth with 1442 points. The Lopes will play the Hampton Talbots on Saturday the 24th at 4 pm at North Allegheny High School.
