With the draft being two days away and the uncertainty of what will occur Thursday night, I am here to tell the top five most valuable players in this year’s 2024 NFL draft. As well as who the Steelers’ first four draft picks may be. Reminder these five players that I am about to name are not in the order I think they will go in the draft, just who in my opinion are the BEST players in this year’s draft.
#1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
Number 1 might not be too surprising to most, but the best overall pick in the draft is Marvin Harrison Jr. If a team is in need of a wide receiver or simply a rebuild, Harrison is the perfect fit for a team in that matter. The 6 foot 4 205 pound receiver had another breakout year in his final season with the Buckeyes having 67 receptions for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns. Draft experts are already predicting Harrison will have a better career than his father who is a hall of fame. I believe if he stays healthy, Marvin Harrison Jr. will be a top 5 receiver in the NFL.
#2 Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams had 3 awesome years in college making his draft very notable and recognized by teams around the league. Williams has the most upside out of any QB in this draft with his accuracy and running ability. Although there are some red flags with William’s off-field ego on how he carries himself. Could be a locker room problem but if teams can clean that up the sky is the limit for the USC QB.
#3 Jayden Daniels
The Heisman winner had an outstanding senior season at LSU throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns. His running ability reminds me a lot of Lamar Jackson and RG3. His age is a bit concerning being 23 years old but the rest is all green flags for the Heisman winner.
#4 Malik Nabers
Next is Jayden Daniel’s favorite target in Malik Nabers having a monster junior year. The 6 foot 200 lb beast had a ridiculous junior season having 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns. In most likely any other draft Nabers would be the number 1 receiver taken in the draft and will have an immediate impact on whichever takes him.
#5 Brock Bowers
Brock Bowers has had a buzz on his name since freshman year when Georgia won the National Champion against Alabama. Considering being hurt mostly the entire season, Bower’s stats were not as productive as his sophomore year when he had 63 receptions for 942 yards and 7 touchdowns. When healthy, Bowers brings so much ability with being a tight end who can also block very well. In many eyes, Bowers is very similar to Travis Kelce which would be amazing if Bowers if half of that.
Steeler’s first four picks:
Round 1, Pick 20: OT Amarius Mims, Georgia
With inconsistency from Dan Moore at the tackle position, Amarius Mims would be an awesome fit for the O-line. Both tackle positions will be solidified for the Steelers by having two young bright athletes with much upside. He would play on the opposite side of his former teammate at Georgia Broderick Jones. Grade A
Round 2, Pick 52: C Zach Frazier, West Virginia
Considering not having a center on the roster heading into the draft, the Steelers will most likely be drafting one. Zach Frazier would be the final piece to solidify the offensive line as a whole with young talent all around. Now there are teams ahead of the Steelers who are in need of a Center such as the Eagles and Dolphins. Frazier is ranked as the third-best center so he has a good chance to slip into the later second round. Grade B+
Round 3, Pick 84: WR Xavier Legette, South Carolina
If he falls down the draft board, this would be an absolute steal by the Steelers. Rumors speculate Caroling take Legette at pick 33 due to his connection going to school in South Carolina. Legette had two solid seasons at South Carolina proving he is ready for starting reps as a rookie. The Steelers are just about in desperate need of a wide receiver or two and tall lengthy possession receiver like Legette could go a long way. Grade A
Round 3, Pick 98: WR Malachi Corley, Western Kentucky
With George Pickens being the only promising receiver on the roster, I could see the Steelers playing it extra safte by drafting two receivers in the draft. Corley is 5’10” with shifty speed. Not the best route runner, but a guy you don’t want to leave in single coverage. Being in need of a slot is perfect because that’s exactly what Corley is. Grade A
I would be happy with just one of the two, but if they can somehow get both this would be my perfect first-four pick for the Steelers.
