The Penguins currently sitting just inside the playoffs holding the last seed. Wednesday night having a huge crucial win against the Detroit Red Wings gets the Pens up to 86 points. Then on Saturday, the Pens took a tough loss on the chin to the Boston Bruins at home dropping them out of the wildcard. There a currently 3 teams with 87 points tied with the last post in the playoffs. that includes the Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings, and the Philidelphia Flyers.
One big component going into the playoffs that every team wants to have is momentum. Right now the Penguins have just that in a team that is healthy and red hot. The Pens have one game remaining on the schedule on the road against the New York Islanders. The chances of the Pens pulling off a playoff spot are slim but still possible if they win Wednesday night and get some help.
