Living in Pittsburgh if you are interested in art has always been an interesting experience. Andy Warhol totally put Pittsburgh on the map if you are interested in physical art. And you would think with more recent singers like Christina Aguilera and rappers like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller, Pittsburgh would hold its own in the music world too, but is that really true?
Historically Pittsburgh has always been getting skipped when tours are announced causing residents to have to travel to see their favorites. Going to the state of Ohio is less than ideal, but it is completely necessary to see artists.
Back in August 2023 when Morgan Wallen came to PNC Park for not one, but two shows, hope was restored that a concert could be a fun night out in Pittsburgh instead of a dreadful drive to Youngstown. Recently with Drake on his revised tour adding Pittsburgh as a stop, it almost felt as if times really were changing.
That hope could not last for too long though, as less than a month after Drake surprised us all and stopped by PPG Paints Arena, I have suffered the loss of an artist-releasing tour with Pittsburgh exempt. With Luke Hemmings announcing tour I was hoping to be able to continue raising the amount of boy band members I have seen in concert. Especially after seeing 5 Seconds of Summer this summer, in which Luke is the lead vocalist, and having a 10/10 time making it one of the best concerts I have been to. All this led to lots of excitement to see him again on stage, which was annihilated whenever his dates included only nine in the United States and none even in Ohio (luckily), making the closest to us surprisingly being in Washington DC.
The last time I went to DC was on my sixth-grade school trip which I don’t hope to relieve making my boy-band count stay at two (or three if you count seeing Harry Styles twice or four if you count seeing an actual boy band in 5SOS)
. As a concert-goer in Pittsburgh, the disappointment that I have felt for many, many years has once again been rightfully restored and I will forever be grateful for the 6 months where I thought Pittsburgh was a changed place.
