Paul Skenes started his 3rd MLB game yesterday against the San Fransico Giants. Skenes threw 6 innings while letting up 1 run and struck out 3. The Pirates for the second day in a row got up 5-1 in the game. However, the Pirates bullpen handed the game away in the late innings for the second day in a row.
The Pirates bullpen went into the 2024 MLB season being ranked #3 overall. They have not lived up to this rank as they are constantly losing games for the teams. On two different days, the Pirate’s rookie phenom pitchers started the game off hot just for the bullpen to ruin it.
I would hope that this doesn’t get into the heads of Paul Skenes and Jared Jones. You would hope they still want to play in Pittsburgh for the future, however pitching great just for others to lose the game is really frustrating.
Hopefully, the Pirates Bullpen can pull it together before the all-star break and the Pirates will get back into contention for the NL Central.
