Towards the end of 2024, Spotify Wrapped became a huge part of many people’s lives online. It was the most anticipated event at the end of this year and Spotify users made predictions for their top artists and top songs. It seemed that almost every day TikTok users were posting that their Wrapped would be coming out that day. However, the day finally came on December 4th! Some people’s predictions at Avonworth were very accurate, but other’s were not so spot on. On the other hand, some people were not anticipating this drop and did not really care what their Spotify Wrapped had to say.
On the teacher perspective, Mr. Wells gave an interesting take. He explained that he was not anticipating his Spotify Wrapped and he had no predictions for what the results could be. “I literally was not interested at all until you came and asked me about it.” He only listens to his Spotify while at school. His top artist was Quinn XCII, and his top song was “Marching Bands” by Neon Dreams, which he said “checks out.” One student who was not impacted much by the buzz surrounding Spotify Wrapped was freshman Laney Myers. She explained that she rarely uses her Spotify account, so she was not interested in what her Wrapped would have to say. However, she also wished that she had used her account more so that she could have a fun and interesting Spotify Wrapped to look forward to.
Some of the most popular top artists around our school were Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Lana Del Rey, Gracie Abrams, and Chappell Roan. Many students, including, sophomore Ella Ging, sophomore Sally Nalevenko, and freshman Tria Witul correctly predicted some of these artists to be in their top five. Ella explained that she was very excited for her Spotify Wrapped to come out; “Spotify Wrapped is my favorite holiday.” She said her predictions were very accurate with her top artists being Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and Chappell Roan. Her top songs were “this is me trying” by Taylor Swift, “Slut! (Taylor’s Version)” by Taylor Swift, “Feather” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Let the Light In” by Lana Del Rey, and “champagne problems” by Taylor Swift. On the other hand, Sally predicted that Taylor, Gracie, and Sabrina would be on her top five, but she also predicted that Aidan Bissett would be on the top five. Her final top artists, however, were Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, and Lizzy McAlpine. Finally, Tria predicted some of her top artist would be Tyler the Creator, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan. While Sabrina and Chappell were on her list, Tyler the Creator was an incorrect prediction, as her five artists were Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter.
There were a few students who had less predictable top artists than Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter. Senior Jordan Hart’s top artists were Weezer, Ghost, Destroy Boys, Chappell Roan, and The Aquabats. Sophomore Olivia Kelley’s were Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys, Mac DeMarco, Tyler the Creator, and Tame Impala. And Sophomore Greta Christof’s number one artist was Kanye West, but she had predicted it would be Kendrick Lamar. Greta also had an interesting take on the “Number of Minutes Listened” section of the Wrapped. She said, “I was surprised that so many people had, like, 100,000 minutes. I only had 15,000 and I thought that was a lot.” Finally, sophomore Elena Van Mater predicted that her top artist would be Zach Bryan, but her actual top five were Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Zach Bryan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Benson Boone.
So, many students’ top artists were predictable popular artists from 2024 like Gracie Abrams and Lana Del Rey. But some students had less popular or predictable artists like Weezer and Tame Impala. Most students seemed to be waiting in anticipation for their Spotify Wrapped, while others did not care who their top artists or what their top songs were.
