2024 had many different trends across music, movies, and social media. All of these trends had different meanings, uses, and audiences, yet a lot of them had a significant impact on culture this year.
The “brat summer” trend originated when Charli XCX released her album, “Brat” on June 7, 2024. The album has an energetic vibe to it as it is very upbeat. Due to the album having this energetic vibe and being released in summer, the term “brat summer” appeared. This is characterized by a confident and independent attitude, primarily in women. “Brat summer” turned into “brat autumn” and turned into a lifestyle for many people.
Many Avonworth students claimed that Brat Summer was an entertaining and iconic part of their summers. Olivia Hanlon, a current freshman, said that “brat summer” made her realize that “it’s okay to be a brat”. Even some teachers were positively impacted by “brat summer”. Ms. Cavaliere, an English teacher, said, “It provided me with a lot of good summer music to drive around to and helped me enjoy my summer a bit more.” Some people did not listen to Charli’s album or were indifferent to the “brat summer” trend. Madelyn Hanlon, a junior said, “It made me realize how stupid people are.”
Though there are some opposing ideas about “brat summer” most people on social media and at Avonworth found it as a source of entertainment and overall enjoyed it.
