With 2024 coming to a close, it is important to think back to all of what has happened throughout the year. One major event that took the country by swarm was the hit blockbuster Wicked, based on the Tony-winning Broadway show in 2004. When the film came out, there was a buzz going around in the air at Avonworth. A couple of the people that had been interviewed had seen the film before. So far, it has been mostly good reviews, with senior Mariah McDowell humorously saying “I think both Cynthia and Ariana made the characters their own, while also honoring, like, Kristen Chenoweth and, [pauses,] the other one’s name.”
(For context, this is the “Other Person.” Idina Menzel Originated the role of Elphaba in Wicked and even won a Tony Award for it.)
Most of the people who went and saw the film were the students rather than the faculty, however, when interviewed, teacher Carley Cavaliere stated “I saw it last weekend … I like musicals, but my mom wanted to go see it cause she’s turning 65, so we went and saw it and it was actually amazing!” Unexpectedly, more people hadn’t seen the movie than originally thought. Most people had said that they were going to see it soon. One such person was Junior Laviny Lima, who said “No, I didn’t watch it yet … I’m going to … I’m supposed to watch it next weekend.” When asked about what she was expecting she replied with, “I’m expecting it to be good. My sister watched it, and she kept telling me to go watch it.”

With the film gaining as much attention as it has, it has been highly recommended. If you are a fan of musicals or are a fan of Ariana Grande, then this film might be for you.
