March 17, 2025, will forever be remembered in Avonworth sports history. On Monday night, the Avonworth hockey team captured its first-ever Penguins Cup championship, marking a milestone moment for the program.
The game was nothing short of sensational, highlighted by an incredible performance from Austin Dzadovsky, who etched his name into the record books. Scoring his fifth goal before the end of the second period, he became one of the first players in Penguins Cup history to achieve such a feat in a single game.
Avonworth set the tone early, with Jameson Shields netting the team’s first-ever championship goal just three minutes into the opening period. Senior Conner Ralston capped off the unforgettable night, scoring the seventh and final goal to secure the victory in dominant fashion.
The atmosphere was electric, as a packed crowd erupted in support of a sport that many had only just discovered. By the final buzzer, fans were hooked. “That was the best game of my life,” one spectator exclaimed. Another, attending their first hockey game, vowed, “I’m definitely going to the next one!”
Avonworth now sets its sights on making even more history. The team will compete for the state championship on Saturday, March 22, at 12:45 p.m. at the RMU Island Sports Center.
