Celebrating the Seniors’ last day at school, Journalism 2 students paid homage to the Core News Values with unusual Blue Diamond 7-Eleven debut Cherry Slurpee Almonds. Is this a nonsense crossover or surprisingly good?
Exclusively sold from 7 to 11, the limited-time slushie-flavored almonds caused some reactions among Journalism 2 students. Luckily, they fit into the wellness policy (thank goodness!) At first, the flavor combination looks downright weird, but the website raves over its fit as a summertime sweet treat. Sadie, a baker, said that a cherry and almond combination is a popular choice in desserts.

Blue Diamond says they’re “Unlike anything you’ve ever heard of—unlike anything you’ve tasted. Every bite of Cherry Slurpee® Flavored Almonds brings a new experience you’ll love. Think summer. Think sweet treat. Think pure goodness. You get all that and more in these tart-tastic snacks with 7 grams of protein.”
Journalism 2 students wouldn’t exactly call the almonds “pure goodness,” exactly. Being the first to try the snack, Brune’s reaction was silence followed by “Oh no.”

Brune and everyone else were confused about why Blue Diamond would choose this flavor combination, Sadie saying that the cherry coating tasted like a pink Starburst and was “just kind of odd” paired with the almond. The consensus was, why, then, how could someone enjoy this?
Stefan: It is not a good flavor combo. If you’re going for almond and something sweet like chocolate, vanilla, caramel, etc. would work way better. It was not good.
Brune: The positive side is that it’s exactly what the package says but its too weird and I dont get why they would put that two ingredients together.
Sadie: It tastes like you had a small bite of a cherry Starburst and then ate an almond. The flavors don’t really combine, so it’s just kind of odd.
Sally: The flavor combo of cherry and almonds is weird, and I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy this. The cherry part does actually taste like a cherry slush, which is odd, but I would still much rather just get a cherry slushie and not this strange combo. Also, the texture of the cherry coating is gritty, like citric acid on a Sour Patch Kid. I don’t know why they made this choice, but it adds to the weirdness. Would not try again, but it’s not disgusting.
Overall, it looks like the Blue Diamond 7-Eleven debut Cherry Slurpee Almonds were a pass for Journalism 2 students.
