On November 7th, the 2025 Grammy nominations came out to very mixed reactions. Some people really enjoyed the variety of the nominated songs and albums, while others took issue with how some very important artists of this year were “robbed”. Artists that fall under this category include Tate McRae and Conan Gray.
Best New Artist
The nominees for this year are (as pictured below) Oliva Dean, KATSEYE, The Marias, Addison Rae, Sombr, Leon Thomas III, Alex Warren, and Lola Young.
Now straight off the bat, I think this is a very good list of singers to be nominated. I would consider myself a fan of all of them except for two, those being Leon Thomas III and The Marias.
Some people feel as though Addison Rae is not a real artist because she started as a TikTok star. However, I feel that is an unfair claim because artists have had this change in the past like Conan Gray and other acclaimed artists.
I am very honored to say that I got the pleasure of seeing Oliva Dean live in concert this year opening for Sabrina Carpenter.
While I do think she has star power, I just don’t see her winning this award to be honest. I feel this same way with Alex Warren, Lola Young, and Sombr.
I think the two artists that have the most potential are Addison Rae and KATSEYE. I am human, so I do have personal bias. I am a bigger fan of KATSEYE than Addison Rae. So personally, I want KATSEYE to win, and I do think they have a chance. However, there is no denying Addison Rae’s major success this year. Whenever you say her name, most people would just think of “that viral TikTok star from 2020”. This opinion has held back her music career for the past couple of years. With hits like “Diet Pepsi” and “Aquamarine”, I think Addison Rae could win and has earned best new artist.
Song of the Year
The nominees this year are “Abracadabra” by Lady Gaga, “Anxiety” by Doechii, “APT” by Rose and Bruno Mars, “DTMF” by Bad Bunny, “Golden” from the K-Pop Demon Hunters soundtrack, “Luther” by SZA and Kendrick Lamar, “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter, and “WILDFLOWER” by Billie Eilish.
Considering all of these songs, I think the two that I don’t see winning is “APT” and “DTMF”. In my opinion, “APT” has weak lyrics and is kind of old at this point. The songs that were released the longest ago normally have the worst shot at winning. Additionally, I don’t think “DTMF” is a good enough song to be the Song of the Year.
The two songs I could see winning are “Golden” and “Manchild”. Even with all of the memes around it, the song “Golden” is catchy both lyrically and musically. However, it is held back by the fact that it is from a children’s movie.
If you ask me, there is still a song that deserves this title even more. That song is “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter. The objectively catchy beat and genius lyrics have been living in my mind rent free since it was released. Sabrina Carpenter is a genius with rhyming things like “Amen” and “Hey men”. Sabrina is very self-aware and writes music that is not only about what’s going on in her real life, but also what fits the vibe she is trying to promote currently.
Album of the Year
I truly don’t know who could win this category. I would like to say “Mayhem” by Lady Gaga or “Man’s best friend” by Sabrina Carpenter. But I don’t know.
The best I can do is just explain why I think that “Man’s Best Friend” deserves it the most. Sabrina announced this album on June 11 2025 and it immediately was faced with unfair criticism before the album had even come out. But luckily the hate was flipped when the amazing album came. At first people didn’t like it. But Sabrina knew what she was doing. At the core Sabrina is a performer and once she started touring this album everything made sense.

I love this article, and it features a very important event in many people’s lives. I do think that other people’s opinions could be useful in backing yourself, but also showing the opposing ideas.

Why does Sombr not have a chance at Best New Artist?
“Man’s Best Friend” will probably win. There’s a ton of songs on that album that have gone viral, and I think it really stands out to people because of that. Also, I like the album title because it reminds me of dogs. I like dogs. My dog isn’t man’s best friend, he’s food’s best friend because he’s FAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He doesn’t respond to his name or really any commands, either. He’s like a cat. I don’t know if it’s because he’s too smart to care or if he’s too dumb to know what we’re talking about. He’s somehow the smartest and dumbest dog I’ve ever met in my life. He used to do this thing where he would go over to the oven and pull the towels off the handle. You would just see the towel fall and him walk away smugly, it was adorable. Now he does this thing where he growls at you if you try to lay on the pillow he’s using because he’s spoiled. I always tell him that I’m gonna put him in a hot dog bun and eat him. His name is Teddy btw and he’s almost 5. Cool article
