The Avonworth Lacrosse Club completed a season of ‘firsts’ in the spring of 2026, following their approval and official formation in October.
Although “most of the guys are new to lacrosse,” the boys have been seeing rapid progression in their practices. Senior Richard Malsch, who like many on the team are also new to the sport, said they are “working Monday through Friday to learn the rules and improve their play.”
Coaches Blaine Mountain and math teacher/Junior class sponsor Mr. Nolan, both with experience at other schools, have worked to support relationships off the field as well. “As the season has progressed, we have gotten to know each other better.” said Malsch.
On March 10th, the team–many of whom were participating in their first ever game–proved their dedication worthwhile; they defeated Beaver Area High School 7-5 with a hat trick from MVP sophomore Cooper Mannion.
By mid May, the team found five other paths to victory. Highlights included senior night, coming back from a 3 goal deficit to beat Winchester Thurston 4-3.
“1 or even 2 games under .500% is nice and well above everything we could have expected,” said Nolan about the competition throughout the season
