Class presidents of each year do most of their work out of the spotlight, making their appearances around fundraisers or pep rallies. Otherwise, they might be more invisible throughout the year. With the start of the Hook, Senior Class President Harrison McAfee and Junior Class officer Timmy Wrona have worked together to also find a way to mix in with all the other students and show their interests that aren’t so obvious.
Every Tuesday, they have a brainstorming meeting where they throw out creative ideas that they think should be incorporated into the hook. Senior Darren Patrick says The Hook lets the kids “express our character.”
The Hook is a good way for students to learn that they’re not obligated to scale their ideas even in a school setting. Sponsor Mrs. James wants them to keep things both informative and fun, which can be difficult at times.
Junior Timothy Wrona gave an important inside view: “I express my creative liberties and artistic freedoms through the school press”.
Another student does not enjoy the Hook whatsoever: “No, I don’t think it’s cool; it’s annoying”. Sophomore Destinee elaborated by saying she doesn’t want to see it so early in the morning. She views The Hook as a more frustrating distraction.
The overall opinion from students seems to be that The Hook is a good way to brighten up a Tuesday, and include a break in class. Staff on The Hook want to keep students entertained. Occasionally their ideas seem too big or maybe not school appropriate, so there are still obstacles to tackle.
