Heading into a new year, the volleyball team made it clear they were not last year’s team. The team wanted to walk into the season not labeled as state and WPIAL champs. Even without wanting to be labeled as champs.
Junior Linnea Zmuda (pictured back row above) stated, “My expectations for the volleyball team this year are that they make a deep playoff run, maybe even win another WPIAL championship”. With new players joining and veteran players leaving, the team is going to have to work around losing some of the seniors. Players said that they are doing well subbing in people who, in the past year, didn’t play as much. Players also believe they need to grow their connection and that many teams will target them on their schedule.
Another junior, Ali Colasante states, “I predict us to grow as a team and increase our connection and mindset from last year. We will have teams ready to play us and have to prepare well and be ready to overcome setbacks”. Players stated that they might start slow this year and pick up the momentum later on when their chemistry develops.
After interviewing some fans of the Avonworth volleyball team, they had high expectations. Mr Nolan said, “I believe that the team will do something similar to last year; maybe they go on a deep playoff run and maybe even win another WIPIAL.”
Mr. Affanah had very clear and open thoughts towards this volleyball team as he stated: “There is one word for this team: WIN.”
