The hook is usually a pretty funny video that plays during your mod D class every Tuesday. They normally keep it funny, but in the 3rd episode, they introduced a serious topic about nicotine and vaping. Many people had rude thoughts right away, just saying them out loud as the video continued.
So I wanted to get people’s thoughts on it. I asked them all one question: “Do you think the hook should do more segments on vaping and serious things like that, or keep it funny”?
I asked Jacob Snyder and Del-Ray Paige, 12th; their response was, “They should keep it funny only,” and they shared an idea: “We wanted Darren to recreate the Lil Nas X Pink Jersey music video because he is number 55, but it probably won’t happen”.

Then I asked Lyla Sebeck 12th, someone who has been on the hook. Lyla said, “Yes, I think it is good to cover, but not too often, maybe like once or twice a month.” My follow-up question was what other serious topic they could cover next. Lyla said, “Bus behavior; people are loud and act crazy on it,” and I have to agree. But talking about vaping and then bus behavior is definitely a tone-down, but still a serious topic.
Then I asked Autumn Waters, 11th; she had a very realistic answer. She said, “I do think it’s important, but the people that do vape will just clown it and take it as a joke. When you’re out in the halls, you probably hear more people laughing and joking about it than people who actually take it seriously.”
That’s all the thoughts I was able to collect. Everyone I talk to had reasonable thoughts and ideas about whether the hook should cover serious topics or not.
