CHANGES AND UPSETS
The Atlantic Coast Conference has gone through some drastic changes, and a couple of surprising upsets since the beginning of college football.
The ACC announced on September 1 that three teams will join the conference. Those teams include SMU, Stanford, and California. Stanford and California leave from the PAC-12 making Oregon State and Washington State the only two teams left in the conference. SMU will leave from the AAC, and all three teams will join in 2024. At first, Stanford and California were rejected by one vote to join, but three weeks later, the ACC changed its mind. Geographically, this does not make since SMU is from Texas, and Cal and Stanford are based in California, and are joining a conference called the Atlantic Coast.
DUKE LOOKING IMPRESSIVE
Duke football hasn’t had a feeling like the one they just had in a while. The unranked Blue Devils just beat 9th-ranked Clemson by a commanding 21 points, 28-7. On Monday, the new AP Poll for Week 2 dropped, and Duke jumped to 21. This is the first time they were ranked since 2018, and the first time they beat a Top-10 ranked team since 1989. They continued their dominance in Week 2 as they beat Layfette soundly, 42-7.
Should Pitt fans be concerned?
Although Pittsburgh won the season opener 45-7 vs. a weak Wofford team, they lost to Cincinnati 27-21, but the loss seemed worse than it was. The Panthers opened up as 3.5-point favorites against the Bearcats. Entering the fourth, they found themselves in a hole down 27-7 and could never recover. New transfer quarterback Phil Jurkovec threw for 179 yards, 3 touchdowns, and went 10-32. The Panthers will look to bounce back in Week 3 when they travel to West Virginia to play in The Backyard Brawl.
