The State of the Union address issued by Donald J. Trump was set as the longest State of the Union in U.S. history, coming in at a whopping 1 hour and 48 minutes long.
However, this speech did not come without its controversies. One of them was Democratic Representative from Texas, Al Green, holding a sign that said: “Black People Aren’t Apes.”
This gesture came as a protest against racist remarks made by Donald Trump, likely referencing a video posted on social media earlier in that same month where former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama were depicted as apes. Green was later escorted by security within minutes of the speech beginning.
As the speech progressed, Trump assured that his “America First Policies” are in fact working very well. This can be seen in his statement that zero illegal immigrants have been admitted into the United States in the past 9 months. Some other statistics he talked about were how inflation dropped 1.7% in the final quarter of 2025, 2.4 million people were taken off food stamps in one year, and that fentanyl crossings were down by 56%.
With all of these stats, Trump claims that “this is the Golden Age of America” and that “ these first 250 years were just the beginning”. He is also calling on Congress to pass laws that tighten voter registration and election integrity laws.
Another upcoming policy he plans on enacting is the Universal Savings Program, which is a proposal for the Government to match up to 1,000 dollars a year for those who cannot access a traditional 401K retirement plan.
In all, the future for the United States as a whole is looking very bright and promising, according to the State of the Union.
