What does breakfast look like now that we have all online classes versus when we were hybrid?

For some, nothing has changed. They eat the same things before virtual class as they did before in-person school: a quick slice of toast, a bowl of cereal, or even nothing. A better breakfast simply isn’t worth losing fifteen extra minutes of sleep.

For others, having online classes has brought a big change in their morning diet. There is time to eat more than a small snack. Some people even go out and buy food before their classes start (or, in some cases, during class).

And for me, the time spent at home has been an opportunity to branch out and try new things in the morning.

Tuesday: avocado toast

Wednesday: scrambled eggs with onions, spinach, mushrooms, and ham

Thursday: a fruit bowl with strawberries, kiwi, mango, and banana

Friday: avocado toast, again, but this time with oats and flax seeds

I usually skipped breakfast before school. If I did eat, it was something quick like a granola bar that I could eat in the car on the way to school. Now that I have so much time in the morning that isn’t spent getting ready or commuting, I have been trying to make something new to start off each day.

Besides the obvious benefit of having a delicious breakfast for once, I definitely noticed a positive change in my day. I felt more energized and focused during my classes.

Plus, it is nice to be able to take some time in the morning to make food for myself and relax. I never got to do that when I was busy scrambling to get to school on time. It’s also nice to be able to sit down and eat, rather than rushing around trying to finish before school starts.

I would highly recommend taking the time to get a good breakfast before school. It made my whole day better, and it was much easier to deal with the stress of online classes. Some of them were nothing fancy, but it still made a difference.

  1. I almost never eat breakfast. This article makes me want to try to get up and eat a decent meal. Especially with the extra time in the morning, I think I should give it a try. Really interesting article, I love how you included your own breakfasts for the week.

  2. Most morning I struggle to find the motivation to wake up and make myself something healthy to fuel my body, but this gave me reasons to try new things over break and potentially while in school too.
